Lord chief justice calls for reform of family system 26 Tuesday October 2010 by James Dean
The adversarial court system is not appropriate for settling parental disputes over the custody of children, the lord chief justice said today.
Giving evidence to the House of Commons’ justice committee, Lord Judge (pictured) said he has ‘real concerns’ that the adversarial system ‘leaves a great deal to be desired’ in cases where there are no allegations of child abuse.
The government-commissioned Family Justice Review, which is considering these issues, will issue an interim report in …

This article is an excerpt from a speech given earlier this week to the McGill University Women’s Alumnae Association on the Impact of Feminism on Society. Barbara Kay writes for the National Post.
In its earliest and most benign form – the political campaign to achieve equality under the law and equality in economic opportunities – feminism was a necessary and welcome reform movement. No rational person could be less than delighted to see barriers to a full range of educational and career options for women fall by the wayside.
The feminism …

Yesterday was the final day for submissions to the new government’s consultation on changes to family law. The EPA’s submission was brief, and simply stated that while the panel appointed to appraise the submissions was made up of representatives of people who earn their living from the Family Law Industry, the review is unlikely to bring about any significant change. Parents need to be part of the review body.
Michael Robinson, the author of the Custody Minefield’s submission, has done a superb job and has produced what I would describe as …

The much reported speech of Sir Nicholas Wall, President of the High Court Family Division, appears below in full.
I confess to gasping when I read his opening remarks: ” The best thing about the Family Justice System, in my view, is the people who work in it. They are not in it for the money, but do the work because they believe in it.” For a while I lacked the inner strength to read beyond this. However, I …

On the first anniversary of the launch of the South Australian government’s Don’t Cross the Line campaign, the Ombudsman has found the Office for Women guilty of unreasonable and wrong administrative action after failing to correct false and/or misleading information on the campaign website.

On 26/8/2010 Brazil became the first country to legislate against parental alienation. Please God it will not be the last.
Here is the text of the Act, with apologies for the Google translation. Article 6 sets out sanctions for the offender, including fines, and favouring the targetted parent by extending family time, or reversing custody.
Law No. 12 318 , DE 26 AUGUST 2010
Provides for parental alienation and amending Art. 236 of Law No. 8069 of July 13, 1990 .

New study: Men suffering ‘intimate terrorism’ by women partners Thurs 12th Aug 2010
“Why don’t the men leave? The men do not want to leave the children with a violent woman, and they are often afraid that they would lose custody of their children in a family court system that tends to favor mothers in custody disputes.”
Clark University research assistant professor of psychology Denise A. Hines is the lead author/researcher on the Men’s Experiences with Partner Aggression Project, a study at Clark University funded by the National Institute of Mental …
